Archive for December, 2008

6:10pm now, I think the first flakes started falling about an hour ago. It’s coming down pretty steady at the moment, no wind yet – but the ground, roads etc are all covered already. *IF* it stays like this, then I’ll probably head to a party for a bit, but can guarantee I’ll be home before midnight LOL I’d like to say it’s pretty out there right now – and would probably be saying just that if it wasn’t New Year’s Eve and that I hadn’t had any plans for the evening LOL

Oh well, I have some movies to watch, stuff to eat, I’ll make do with staying home if I have to! I soon better decide what I’m doing tho, so I can get the car situated in the garage and out of the snow! That way, should I be snowed in tomorrow, SOMEONE can arrive here with a snow plow and get me out! ROFL!!

And what a NYE it’s going to be here apparently!! My area is under a severe blizzard warning for tonight/tomorrow – lots of snow (could very well be 30+cms of the damn stuff) and very high winds. Ummm yay?? lol Town right now is going a little nuts – the grocery store is insane of course and I have to head back there shortly, need to stock up on foods we can eat that don’t require cooking – I’m usually very lucky to keep power even during the worst of winds, but I don’t want to chance it. So off I go to get some provisions, head to the well for water, make sure I have batteries, some extra candles etc.

And of course depending on *when* the snow starts, if I don’t end up at my NYE party tonight, I’ll go get a couple movies to watch, hopefully keeping our power LOL I am so glad I got the garage cleaned out in the fall – because that’s where my car is going to be parked tonight! But right now? It’s hard to believe bad weather is even on it’s way – it’s sunny, just now starting to get overcast. BLAH!! I don’t want snow!!!!!!!! LOL

But in case I don’t get back here for a few days? Happy New Year everyone, and all the very best for 2009. I hope it brings great and wonderful things for you all :)

probably not LOL

I ended up having an awesome day for my birthday! yay! Slept in until shortly before 10 I think…when I heard rather loud banging coming from the kitchen – which happens to be right under my bedroom lol I guessed that someone was making me a birthday surprise – and I was right! By the time I finished in the bathroom getting washed, dressed and getting my face on, Miss Megan was up the stairs, cookie sheet in hand (using it as a tray LOL) with a plate of scrambled eggs, one toasted whole wheat english muffin and some juice. Awwwww! How sweet was that??? So I ate, and left to do some errands – coffee run first of course! Then checked the mail, went to book an appointment for my car, ran to Superstore for a bit then home – to find a lovely rose and birthday card from Kevin, Tracy and Bryce. In the card was $5 worth of lottery pull tickets – won $12! wheeee! :) After lunch I took Megan down to Val’s to spend the day with Breanna, I went for another coffee run and a drive, visited with my friend Crystal for a bit, then home around 3:30ish. Alyssa and I went to get Megan at 4:30 then headed out to supper :) Home again just in time to straighten up a bit and then Brad and Karen arrived with a card, a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a birthday cake!! :) :) They stayed for an hour or so, and after they left I headed back to SuperStore to visit with Susan – and she handed me $10 worth of lottery pull tickets from her and another friend Val that also works there – won $2 ROFL! Home, had a nice hot bath, then got a call to go visit for the evening with a friend – we watched a movie (Hancock – kinda odd but at least now I don’t have to waste money renting it LOL) Didn’t get home until about 1:30am, stopped to clean kitchen, eat my lobster I had for my birthday treat and now here I sit – 2:15am. I’m too old for this LOL I’m going to be dragging butt all day I can tell!

As far as New Year’s Eve plans go – well, I’ve been invited to friends Mark and Crystal’s for a party – they are doing fireworks around 8pm for the kids so I’ll see if Alyssa and Megan want to go up for a bit – of course this all depends on the weather – major snow storm predicted starting sometime during the evening. Of course. Happy Freaking New Year LOL

And ya – get to start my day by taking my car to the garage – the *check engine* light came on sometime Sunday, hasn’t gone off yet, and the guys at the garage will have to hook it up to a computer to diagnose the problem. Please pray it’s nothing serious or expensive, cuz after paying for Christmas I’m not sure I have any money left to pull outta my ass for this bill LOL

Have a good one ppl! :)

Today is December 29th. Tomorrow obviously will be December 30th. My birthday. My 40th birthday *sigh* LOL It doesn’t bother me nearly as much as turning 30 did tho. Now THAT birthday was miserable. I did NOT want to leave my twenties behind, trust me! 30 meant grown up. 30 meant acting responsibly LOL But now 40?? I’m really hoping my 40′s are so much better and happier then my 30′s!!! Well, here’s hoping anyway! lol and today my bestest friend Val dropped in with a lovely surprise for me – a Willow Tree angel for my collection, a *best friend forevah* magnet and a very funny t-shirt that has a license plate on it that says 2sexy2b40 ROFL! I’m supposed to wear it tomorrow. Hmmmm. We’ll see about that LOL Actually, it’s really big, so I’m thinking it’s going to be an awesome night shirt ;) plans for tomorrow include nothing special. I might check the bank account and see if we can finagle supper out, and I’ll have to go get myself a cake (how sad is that? LOL) and I’ve already got some lovely cooked lobster waiting for Alyssa and I (Megan for some horrific reason does not like lobster????)

Remember last week and my telling you about the lovely snow/rain/hurricane force wind storm we had on the 21st? and how I lost part of one very large tree in my backyard? I finally got around to taking a pic today:

It’s still there, certainly not in my way – the kids are itching to go play in it LOL (I’ve said no obviously!) and the dogs can’t quite figure out why it’s there! lol

Oh what else?? hmmmm. I’m completely and totally as hooked on the whole Twilight series of books as Alyssa is (I knew I would be – we are both such Harry Potter and Lord of the Ring fans) – I’ve finished the first book – Twilight, will most definitely will finish the 2nd one – New Moon – tonight, and will have to wait not so patiently for Alyssa to finish the 3rd one – Eclipse – so that I can get to it! LOL then there’s just Breaking Dawn to fight over! Oh, and of course we are both waiting, not so patiently again for the movie to come out on DVD. I might have to buy 2 copies, one for me and one for Alyssa! LOL

Not much going on here today, other then the usual laundry, cleaning, decluttering – you know, boring stuff lol

I almost had a night completely alone last night – both girls were off to separate sleepovers – I had junk for supper (bagel bites lol) and was just planning on vegging out doing nothing – watching what I wanted on the TV, reading (hooked on the books Alyssa got for Christmas – almost finished the first one, Twilight) – it stormed yesterday – 1st snow, then of course rain, so I wasn’t thinking anything thrilling was going to happen (and I was right really lol) Plans did change ever so slightly tho when a friend of mine called saying he had some new movies to watch, he came and got me (cuz I was not driving at that point, too much snow on the roads lol) and we watched “Happy Bunny” – very funny! I was back home just after 10pm (cuz he was off to yet another friends to watch some weird Ultimate Fighter Championship deal on PayPerView – and I was like – uhhh no thanks LOL not really my cup of tea!) By the time I got home tho the roads were clearing off quite nicely, so I decided to maybe head to the bar for a bit – karaoke on Sat nights is always a very slow quiet evening, and I was right – there were probably no more then 10 ppl there LOL I was home again, in my jammies by 11:30.

Phone went at 12:30am – it was Alyssa and could I please come get her *sigh* her asthma and/or allergies were flaring and she wasn’t feeling well. I went and got her, and she went right to be as soon as she got home – in fact it’s not 11:30am and I’ve still not seen her – she’s either sleeping or she’s been up all night reading LOL (which hey, is good because I’m almost finished the 1st book and need to move on to the 2nd :) ) Megan on the other hand is still at her friends, and will probably be there for awhile yet.

And the big snow storm from yesterday?? Well it turned to freezing rain then rain last night – and the snow is pretty much gone already today! It’s pretty mild out there too. Man, gotta love NS weather :)

*yawn* It’s been a very long day. Happy, sad – all rolled into one. We ended the day with a nice family Christmas dinner, Kevin, Tracy, Tracy’s mom Florence, Braden (who was down from the city) and Bryce came and joined us for turkey (which by the way turned out awesome! lol) in fact, everything was perfect!! Clean up was a breeze, what with the paper plates (lol) and having cooked and cleaned the bird yesterday! The supper guest were gone around 7pm, by 7:30 I was soaking in a nice long, hot bath – ahhhhhhhh :) The house is all cleaned up, gifts are all put away (I HATE having stuff under my tree!), kitchen is spotless, garbage, recycles and compost bin out at the end of the driveway ready for pick up tomorrow (hmmm – I *think* it’s tomorrow! lol) I was going to bed an hour ago, but I’ve been sitting here playing games instead, but I’m heading off now. Alyssa finished her 1st of 4 books she got for Christmas (all 4 in the Twilight series) tonight so now it’s my turn! yay!! lol

The girls did very well for themselves today I think – Alyssa got the 4 books already mentioned (one from Tracy and Kevin, the other 3 from Santa), her own digital camera & matching case, pj pants (1pr from Santa, 1pr from Kev/Tracy), 1 movie, couple Wii games, Guitar Hero for her Nintendo DS, 2 Twilight posters from Santa, 2 new Webkinz from Santa, a new Happy Bunny calender and an Origami Mystical Creatures kit from Santa and $50 from her Grandpa and Nana S. and a $15 gift card from her Aunt Julie and Uncle Peter, and a surprise gift from Karen/Brad/Nick – ummm which escapes me at the moment! (sorry!!) Plus all the stuff in her stocking. Megan got books too, 3 new Barbies, a Nintendo DS and 2 games, a craft making kit, 2 High School Musical posters, a High School Musical calender, a set of High School Musical sheets she wanted, a Barbie movie and 2 new Webkinz all from Santa, a HSM Barbie and pj’s from Kev/Tracy $50 from Grandpa & Nana S, and a $15 gift card from Aunt Julie and Uncle Peter, and a surprise gift from Karen/Brad/Nick – a face painting kit (thanks Miss Karen – I will get you back for that! LOL) Plus all the stuff in her stocking. For the *family* there was Dance Dance Revolution, CSI game and Wii Music for the Wii, the 1st and 2nd season of Family Guy (lol) I think there was one or two other things from Santa for the family but darned if I can remember LOL

I got from Kev/Tracy – $50 gift card to my favorite clothing store (wish they were open tomorrow dammit! lol), a new Bearington Bear for my collection, and a beautiful candle. And a couple surprise gifts from my friend Karen – a snowman framed print I had been eyeing up at Home Hardware, and from my *Mooch* (Karen’s son Nick lol) an awesome *Live, Love, Laugh* wall plaque – thanks guys!!!! :) and of course $50 from Dad and Joan :) and Megan loves to make home made gifts – they are always fun to open! LOL and this year she didn’t disappoint…she made me a picture frame (a styrofoam meat tray with the middle cut out and then she taped one of her school pics in it LOLOL) which she lovingly wrapped and had under the tree for me :) I love my kids! :) And not to be forgotten! My Aunt Bev started a tradition years ago of sending all of us (me, the girls, Kevin, Tracy and the boys) $50 which we have always used for pizza night on Christmas Eve. Only this year?? uhhhh, Kev, Tracy and I decided to veto out the kids and we treated ourselves to lunch at Lane’s LOLOL So thanks Aunt Bev!! :)

All in all? I’m so very thankful for my family and friends for making Christmas awesome for not only my kids, but for me too :)

Well the day was a hit I think – both girls seemed very pleased with everything they got, so score one for me! (uhhhh I mean Santa :) ) Megan’s main gift was a Nintendo DS and a couple games – although I think she’s more thrilled over the 3 HSM barbies she got lol Alyssa’s main gift was a pretty pink Kodak digital camera – but she was equally as thrilled over the entire set of Twilight books, her 2 Twilight posters, and the Wii games LOL

It’s now 9:40am and we’ve been done for awhile now – breakfast included lol In fact I just finished washing the dishes! The girls started yelling for me around 7:05am (I really think I need to institute my Mother’s rule of no noise before 8am LOL) – I was up and downstairs by 7:15am – made them wait until I had a) the Christmas lights all on b) made myself a cup of tea c) got the camera ready d) and my smokes (yes Kevin and Peter – I am *EXACTLY* like our Mother!!! LOLOL) We opened the gifts, Megan helped me clean up the wrapping paper, they played while I was on the computer for a bit then I made us breakfast – scrambled eggs, toast, bacon. Now I’m here for a minute blogging – then?? I’m totally going back to bed for a bit! LOL

Merry Christmas everyone – I hope you all have an awesome day!

Well, I some how made it happen for another year! 11:30pm, Christmas Eve, and Santa has officially been and gone (must have come in while I was having a bath! lol) Today was a long one, productive, but long! But I managed to get the turkey done, and stuffing, all that’s cleaned up and ready for tomorrow. The house got straightened up, presents are under the tree, stockings are stuffed, all my stuff got delivered and I was actually able to do a bit of visiting earlier tonight. And just to prove it’s all happened, enjoy some pictures :)

The tree

The gifts – doesn’t look like much, but I have the receipts to prove otherwise LOL

and some for me!

The over stuffed stockings:

and some Christmas cookies :)

the rest of the pics can be seen by clicking HERE and of course more will be added after tomorrow :)

Merry Christmas everyone!

it’s now at the point of no return…just after 4:30pm, all the stores are now closed! If you haven’t bought what you needed by now you’re outta luck! lol I need to make one more trip out of this house, but not until sometime after supper – need to deliver the last present, and head up to Milton to Susan’s house to pick up a couple lobsters I had her darling hubby get for me…lobsters are SO cheap right now – I got 2 nice sized ones for under $10! They aren’t for Christmas tho, but for my birthday which is in 5.5 days :) I’ll cook them tonight and toss them in the freezer until the 30th :)

The girls are making themselves supper (man, gotta love self reliant kids, eh?) and I’m just relaxing for a bit – the stuffing is all ready for tomorrow, now sitting out in the very cold storage room – and I am pleased to say it turned out perfectly! Just like Mom’s :) The turkey upon checking it is almost done – just have the cover off now so it can brown up nicely. Dishes are yet again caught up. Before the kiddies head off to dreamland we’ll all pitch in and get things straightened up and I’ll vacuum.

Bring on Santa baby!!

PS – had an awesome call back from my Aunt Bev (waving!) we had a nice long talk, and could have kept right on talking had she not had to go out! lol Love you!! :)

nearly 1pm here – I’ve been up and braved town – OY! it’s a mad house out there – people and cars everywhere!  And of course, I have to venture back out! Wellll, I don’t really have to, but if I want one more Tim Horton’s before they close until Boxing Day I have to get there before 3pm LOL And even tho I’ve been to the grocery store already today, I forgot to pick up something quick and easy for supper so back I go. And there’s one or two *secret* Santa presents to drop off here and there – hehehe – god I love Christmas! LOVE it!!

But so far today it’s going very well! Since getting back home I’ve gotten the turkey in the oven (yes, the bird is cooking today!) and I have the fixings for my stuffing simmering on the stove now. That stuff has to cook nice and slow for a few hours, then I have to cut up 4 loaves of bread and get it all mixed together. By tonight the turkey will be done…and I can carve ‘er up, clean up all that yucky mess and get it all out in the compost bin, make my gravy, put all the cut up meat in to that and put out in my cold room. By the time I head to bed I’ll have all the veggies cut up and sitting in the fridge ready to be cooked tomorrow. When I put the stuffing in the oven to bake tomorrow afternoon I’ll put the big pan of gravy/turkey in to reheat. Viola! Christmas dinner withOUT hassle or mess on Christmas day!

My only gripe so far today is? I missed a phone call from my Aunt Bev :( But I’ll be calling you back later baby!! you can count on it :) And yea…my kids are WIRED today. Absolutely wired! oy! They were bad yesterday too LOL Tomorrow morning can’t get here soon enough!
